October 2010:
BAKE SALE AT THE TURKEY SUPPER:
We are again holding our bake sale in the Narthex during the Turkey Supper. We are asking anyone who will donate baked goods to please bring them as early as possible so that they can be packaged and priced before the diners arrive. Thank you for supporting our fundraiser which helps us to purchase our Sunday School materials.
Fall Fest:
October 30 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.
Come on out for fun in the fall – and don’t forget to put on your “best” face! We will have a party to celebrate fall. We will have hot dogs and the fixings. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share. After our meal, we’ll play games, like “swinging donuts” and dunking for apples. Let’s see who gets the closest with “pin the stem on the pumpkin”. You can even dress-up in costume if you want to. This party is for everyone of any age, so come and have a great time celebrating our colorful season of fall.
The lazy days of summer aren’t over yet, but we are already looking ahead to fall and the beginning of a new Sunday School season at Emmanuel. We have a great program for all ages, from toddler to adults. There’s something for everyone to join. In order to carry out this program, everyone who is interested in teaching or helping is asked to meet after worship on Sunday, August 15. We are using the One Room Sunday School curriculum for our children’s program. This is a rotation based program in which there are three main areas, the Learning Center for Bible study, the Crafts Center and the Games Center. Each Sunday, the children go to the Learning Center where they hear a Bible story, learn to use their Bibles and discover more about our faith through word games and puzzles. Most of the weeks the Crafts and Games Centers alternate, but every once in a while they are both used on the same Sunday. We need leaders for each center and a helper (or two) would be great. We also have a class for teenagers (and beyond) and one for adults. So if you’re interested in being a part of passing on our faith, come out and find a spot in our program!
Last Day of Sunday School:
JUNE 6 will be the last day of Sunday School. I really appreciate the help from the Sunday School teachers and helpers. You do a terrific job.
Bake Sale;
Thanks so much to everyone who donated baked goods for our bake sale during the Turkey Supper. We really need this fundraiser to help purchase our program materials. Lisa Rinehimer
2010 Vacation Bible School:
Vacation Bible School volunteers from the churches of Emmanuel UCC, Stairville UMC and Faith UMC are meeting on Monday, May 10, at 6:30 pm to begin planning our program which will be held in July this year. We will meet at Stairville UMC, the host church for this year. At this planning meeting, we will review the materials for this year’s VBS, SonWorld Adventure Park and decide who will be in charge of the various areas. SonWorld Adventure Park is based on a theme park, with different “attractions” representing the different areas. Volunteers are needed to lead the crafts, games, story center, music and snacks areas. There’s great decorating ideas, too, for those who are creative. Through the program, we will help children Choose to BELIEVE that Jesus is God’s promised Savior, Choose to ACT and care for others, Choose FORGIVENESS from Jesus, Choose to OBEY Jesus even when it’s hard and Choose JESUS as our guide and source of wisdom!
A follow-up meeting will be held on Monday, May 24, at 7:00 pm at Stairville. We will review what materials are needed for the various areas and how much will need to be ordered. If you are interested in leading or being a helper, we welcome you to help plan this special event to help our children learn to make good choices.
Easter Party Update:
Our Sunday School Easter Party will be on Saturday, April 3, from 10 am to 12 noon. The Sunday School will provide the candy for the egg hunt this year. Each child should bring a basket or paper bag to collect their eggs. We will also be making a craft and, of course, painting toast. A light “breakfast” (cereal, fruit, etc.) will be served.
Bake Sale
We will be selling baked goods during the Turkey Supper on April 17. This fundraiser helps collect money for purchasing curriculum and supplies for our Sunday School program. If anyone would like to donate baked goods, we would be very grateful.

I would like to thank everyone who donated health kits in response to our February Mission project. The children really had fun assembling the ones they donated. They did that one Sunday instead of their regular craft project and had a great time.
We have also been receiving our Sunday School OGHS offering. So far our children have donated $23.68. Most of the offering is in change which points out that they raided their own “piggy banks”. I am so pleased that our children understand the value of giving to others.
