Welcome to Emmanuel United Church of Christ

Easter! Beautiful Easter! It was a wonderful Sunday for me with Kirk and Juliana here. I had a great time with them and Archie and the visit from the Easter Bunny. But most of all knowing that Christ made it out of the tomb to be our Savior – Christ is risen! Alleluia!
Now I have time to breathe. Holy Week seemed especially busy this year – maybe it’s because I’m getting older that I seem to run out of time. But everything got done and now we move on. How many of you have made already made egg salad from all those dyed eggs left over? I know that’s what I plan to have for lunch today. YUM! YUM! Oh yes – there are some wonderful Easter candies to be eaten but I have to hide them and just get out a piece at a time so we don’t pig out.
It was a busy April and I want to thank all of you for your hard work – with the soup sale and the turkey dinner. They were both very successful – again. To all who volunteered to furnish and serve a Wednesday night meal, I just want to tell you all that they were very delicious. And now we have many things to look forward to – Mother’s Day is just around the corner following the PNEC Annual Meeting. Then the day after, VISION will be here for a week. Also – remember to call the youth to help you with your yard work. They are really excited about their upcoming mission trip in July and are willing to work hard to pay some of their way.
“What a God we have! And how fortunate we are to have him, this Father of our Master Jesus! Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a brand-new life and have everything to live for, including a future in heaven—and the future starts now! God is keeping careful watch over us and the future. The Day is coming when you’ll have it all—life healed and whole.” 1 Peter 1:3-5 (the Message)

This reading is part of our scripture for this upcoming Sunday. Let’s not get into the doldrums now that the joy of Easter has “passed”. Let’s keep that joy knowing that we do indeed have great fortune in having our wonderful God. God is always with us to lean on if we have that need, to hear us when we cry and bring us comfort. But God is also with us to laugh with us and share our joy and to listen when we pray. As we consider all that God has done for us, we must be humbled and forever grateful. Let us rejoice together in those very familiar words:

“How great Thou art, how great Thou art!”

See you on Sunday! God’s blessings be with you.

knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. — 1 Peter 1:18-19 (NASV)
